Sara Landeau is a multidisciplinary artist working at the crossroads of music, contemporary art, and activism. Her practice spans multimedia guitar works, sound installations, and experimental instruments, weaving visual art and sound into immersive experiences.
She is best known as guitarist for The Julie Ruin (Hardly Art Records) and touring guitarist with Bikini Kill, with whom she has performed worldwide. She has produced music and collaborated with award-winning artists. For 16 years, she also ran a pioneering NYC music school for girls and women—creating the kind of safe, supportive, women-led space she wished had existed when she was growing up.
A former CBGB’s employee and longtime New Yorker, Landeau relocated to Los Angeles in 2021 and co-founded Ampere Studio, a downtown recording and teaching hub. Since 2017 she has taught music at Brooklyn College and, since 2021, at Interlochen School of the Arts. A first-generation college graduate, she is now pursuing a doctorate online in the UK.
