Music Lessons

Around 2005 I started a music space in Greenpoint Brooklyn called "Brooklyn Music Studio for Women and Girls." It went through a few different titles, but had remained consistent as a place for guitar, bass, and drum lessons for 15 years! This fall (2020) I closed the doors and set up at home to teach full time online. The pandemic forced this to happen.  I miss my drum kit, beat-up baby grand piano, loud microphones, and the safe fun atmosphere of meeting students and making noise at the studio space. The rent wars won, and I knew that was coming. Now I'm taking time to reinvent a comfortable online learning place for my students, as well as plan out a future music-making location.

About private lessons.

For a lot of years, I  have worked as a guitar instructor, band coach, and drum teacher. I have taught courses on music theory,  popular to punk to shred to classical guitar styles,  general sight reading for guitar, bass, and drumkit. I've helped several students build pedal boards and trained young bands to record in DAWs. I've worked parallel and with Girls Rock Camp for over 10 years, helping coach both kids and adults.

I find learning music theory fun, but won't force it on you (well, just a bit). I believe learning the fundamentals and ideas behind WHY songs work will help you to teach yourself and grow a foundation to build upon. Learning fom several angles is essential - songs, patterns, a little theory, happy accidents -  it all adds up to  becoming a creative guitarist and musician.

I have a large library of educational resources and cross reference from several books and study materials. We will aim towards any style(s)  you are most interested in. Students of all ages are welcome. Specialization includes adults learning an instrument for the first time.
